John Buck
|
John has been interested in genealogy since his youth. He has spent a number of years tracing his family through the south, and to the dismay of many family members, not to the Isle of Man. He is a member of several genealogy associations including the Association of Professional Genealogists and the East Valley Chapter of FHSA.

Michelle Goodrum
|
Michelle Roos Goodrum is a researcher, speaker, educator and writer with a passion for research using DNA and land records. She is a Teaching Assistant for Boston University's Online Genealogical Research Program.
Michelle became involved in family history in the early 1990s when she realized her ancestors saved everything from important family documents to the smallest trinkets. She is now the caretaker of over 130 years of her family’s history. Recognizing the importance of genetic genealogy, Michelle completed the first weeklong DNA course in July 2014 at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. She went on to attend the Advanced DNA Analysis course at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy in January 2015. She regularly attends DNA sessions at genealogy conferences. Edith Haws
|
Edith S Haws is currently serving her 3rd Mission at the Mesa Az FamilySearch Library. She also serves as the Indexing Director of her LDS Stake and as an Area Advisor for FamilySearch. Edith has been involved with Family History work for about 38 years, starting with her first class at BYU at age 19. She holds a B.S degree from Brigham Young University in Elementary Education with a double minor in Public Speaking and Music. She is thrilled to see the technology advances that make Family History work so much easier and productive.

Wallace Haws has served twice as a service missionary at the Mesa Az FamilySearch Library. He and his wife jointly serve as Area Family History Advisors for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Mesa Area.

Travis Haynie
|
Travis W. Haynie is a 4th generation AZ native and Mesa High Graduate. He received his Bachelors of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix, and worked as an account specialist, help desk technician, Network Administrator, and for the last 14 years as a technical consultant to school districts. He earned a Masters degree in Information Management from the WP Carey School of Business at ASU. Technology is a natural part of his life. Travis is currently a teacher for Heritage Academy Gateway and serves as their IT Administrator. He is a part time teacher for Rio Salado as well.

Bob Hoteling
|
Bob Hoteling has been involved in family history for over 30 years. He was trained by Delite Gaddie who was a well-known genealogist in Mesa for many years before her passing. He has been involved ever since his first introduction and has worked as a family history consultant, PAF teacher, sunday school teacher as well as being involved in 6 Mesa FamilySearch Library conferences at ASU and Red Mountain Institute. He has assisted people with research all over the United State as well other countries such as Tonga, France & Greece. He also has experience helping the ASL community. He doesn’t speak other languages, but the Lord has helped him find a way to bridge the gap when needed. Students report he is especially gifted at teaching beginners and seniors.

DeAnna Johnson

Introduced to Family History as a teen by her mom. She is a wife, mother of 6 and grandmother to 17. Retired after 25 years in the corporate world, now works from home allowing her to do things she enjoys, ie. family history. Her childhood interest grew to many years of research. She has served for 11 years at the Mesa FamilySearch Library. She enjoys research, travel & digging into old records.
With an extensive computer background, is also very excited about the thrilling advances of technology in genealogy research. She is a certified research consultant and loves working with individuals to help them in their family history pursuits. |

Holly Long

Holly was born into a family with a rich heritage and love of Family History. Both her grandmothers worked diligently researching their families in the days when that meant writing letters or taking trips to visit distant cousins. She also has some great grandfathers whose journal writings are widely published. Her mother is also an avid writer, documenting family history in beautiful and interesting ways. Holly herself started doing research and helping others over 10 years ago and is now working as a professional genealogist. She has a firm testimony of the power of this work and the blessing it brings as we participate in it. She is currently serving as the Mesa South Stake Family History Director.

Dr Robert Massey
|
Dr. Massey was born in Northern California and raised in Missouri and Kentucky. He graduated from high school in historic Liberty Missouri. From there he earned his B.S. from Western Kentucky Univ., and an M.Ed. from the Univ. of West Alabama. He finished his education with an Ed.D from Arizona State University. A forty year history teaching career started in Bowling Green, KY in 1970. Robert continues to teach US History and US Military Hist. at Estrella Mountain Community College [Avondale, AZ] today.
Dr. Massey has researched his ancestors and found that he has “kin” on both sides that served during the Civil War. He is a member of both the Sons of Union Veterans and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. As a 10 yr. member of the National Genealogy Committee for the Sons of Confederate Veterans, he does 3 to 5 researches every week to verify honorable service in the CSA army for those that wants to join the SCV. He is also Vice President of the Arizona Genealogical Advisory Board, Inc. and a member of the Arizona & Virginia Historical Societies. |

Joyce Reese McCollum
|
Ms. McCollum presents various topics on genealogy research, methods in general and specifically on African American and Pre-Emancipation Research.
She began her journey as a genealogist in 1985, after learning that both her maternal great-grandfathers were Civil War Veterans of the United States Colored Troops. Since her early retirement, she has devoted her time to genealogy research. Ms. McCollum is Co-Administrator for www.LowCountryAfricana.com , www.africanaheritage.com and www.afriquest.com . She was a researcher for the Magnolia Gardens slavery interpretation project in Charleston South Carolina and contributed to Louis H. Gates Jr. PBS productions and a movie biography of Harriet Tubman. She is the author of several published articles on genealogical research, and has been the President of the Black Family Genealogy/History Society here in Phoenix for the past two years. |

Kim Miller

Kimberly Miller was raised on family stories and family history, both recent and less recent. As an adult she has delved into many of the newly available tools, technology, and resources. She continues to gather family stories, data, and pictures, to preserve and share with other members of the family. She also takes great enjoyment in helping others research their own family lines and gather and preserve their stories, images, and memories.

Dr Duane Roen
|
Duane Roen has been tracing his roots since his teenage years, building a database with more than 32,000 ancestors. He and his wife, Maureen Roen, have also been recording their family history since 1978 by writing more than 16,000 daily journal entries on their children and other family members. Combining his professional and personal interests, Duane worked with colleagues to establish courses on writing and recording family history in the School of Letters and Sciences. He also is founding coordinator of the Project for Writing and Recording Family History in the College of Letters and Sciences at Arizona State University. Although Duane loves family history, he spends most of his waking hours serving as Dean of University College Dean of the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, and Vice Provost of the Polytechnic campus at Arizona State University.

Charles Shults
|
Born in Indiana and raised in Arizona,
Charles Graduated from ASU in Engineering. He served in the USAF as a Missile Launch Officer with Minuteman III ICBMs. He worked In the aerospace industry in engineering and management for over thirty years. He has volunteered at the Mesa AZ Family Search Library since 2005. Charles is married for 45 years with three children and three grandchildren. |

Melanie Sturgeon
|
Melanie is the State Archivist & Director of the AZ State Archives, a Division of the AZ State Library, Archives and Public Records. She has a Ph.D. in history and is an avid genealogist and family historian. As an archivist who works with government records she is familiar with numerous primary sources that contain information about people. She has taught family and oral history workshops throughout the state of Arizona and has conducted over 100 oral history interviews ranging from family histories to interviews with the original residents of the first Sun City.
